Explorations in Madness is the fifth album by Moes Haven, released on September 12, 2005. The album has 13 tracks and a running time of 43:08.
After releasing two albums of brand new material, Moes Haven returned to re-writing and re-recording tracks written during their pre-streaming era. The original version of Explorations of Madness was first recorded at Providence College during the winter of 2000 under the band name Scalzo. That album was recorded on cassette and contained 90 minutes of material.
The 2005 Moes Haven version of the album includes some original tracks from its predecessor. Other tracks are remasters from the 2000 version, and some are completely re-written and re-recorded from scratch. Because of this variety, the album has an experimental sound, featuring extra instrumentation and effects that differ from other Moes Haven material.
The concept of the album focuses on the darker side of human existence. The blurb on CD Baby says about the album: “More than five years in the making, this concept album finds Moes Haven delving into the depths of insanity.”
Matt Farley discusses the album in depth on Motern Media Infomercial Podcast #47 (May 20, 2015).
