The Odd Man Who Sings About Poop, Puke and Pee is a Motern Media novelty song artist, represented solely by Matt Farley. In the lore of the Motern Media universe, this artist is also the front man of The Toilet Bowl Cleaners.
Like The Toilet Bowl Cleaners, The Odd Man’s music centers on bodily functions such as pooping, puking, peeing, farting, belching, and so on, although he has also released an album of sincere rock covers. With nearly 4,300 songs across 86 albums and several singles, The Odd Man is the most prolific Motern Media artist, much in part to his collections of Name Poop songs.
Real-life history
Farley began The Odd Man as a side project from The Toilet Bowl Cleaners. Where The Toilet Bowl Cleaners wrote more insightful tunes about bodily functions, The Odd Man was to put out anything that fit the topic but not quite the same vibe. He released Good Songs about Poop, Puke and Pee in October 2013, then Animal Poop Songs in May 2014. The latter album became part of the lore of the character and the greater Motern Media universe (see “In the Motern Media universe” below). Farley would not record under this pseudonym again for quite some time, both in order to push the lore and because he was working on other projects.
In March 2017, Farley returned to the project, putting out City Poop Songs and following it up with Food Poop Songs that July. He then took another break from recording under The Odd Man’s name.
Name Poop Songs
The theme of The Odd Man’s music had become using topics from other Motern Media artists (The Singing Animal Lover, The Guy Who Sings Songs About Cities & Towns, The Hungry Food Band) and tying them to poop. In April 2018, as The Odd Man, Farley released Name Poop Songs, which borrowed the self-explanatory gimmick from The Guy Who Sings Your Name Over and Over.
On Name Poop Songs, each track’s lyrics contains nothing more than a person’s name and the word “poop”, although the music is different for every song. From the release of Name Poop Songs, The Odd Man’s output consisted almost solely of these types of songs, with each subsequent album having only a slightly different title. For example, Name Poop Songs was followed by Name Name Poop Songs, then Name Poop Songs Songs, then Name Name Poop Songs Songs.
With time, further album titles would receive extra superlatives that grew in intensity, such as Great Name Poop Songs (June 2020), Excellent Name Poop Songs (September 2020), Superb Name Poop Songs (July 2023), and Extreme Very Name Poop Songs (July 2025). (These are just examples; there were many more albums in between each, with similar titles to these.)
Popularity on TikTok
The Name Poop songs had already enjoyed popularity via young kids asking their parents’ Alexas to play their Name Poop song. However, when TikTok became a major social media phenomenon in 2020, it allowed users to search for music on streaming services such as Spotify and add it to their video. Therefore, users would search for their own Name Poop song, and if they could not find it, they would reach out to Farley and request him to write theirs. This accounts for the glut of Name Poop albums released under The Odd Man name between May 22, 2020 and July 31, 2021, with some albums coming out within days of each other. After Very Good Great Name Poop Songs came out on July 31, 2021 to mark The Odd Man’s 50th album, Farley’s output under this name became somewhat more sporadic (although still quite intense).
The Name Poop songs greatly increased traffic to Farley’s other music and films, providing him with a new audience and level of notoriety as the 2020s progressed.
Recent releases and future
In August 2025, as part of his attempt to put out one release every month in that year, Farley released I Like These Songs under The Odd Man’s name. It is a collection of covers of popular songs that Farley enjoys, making it only his second album of covers after May 2025’s Good Old Folk Songs, a collection of folk song covers released under the pseudonym The Very Nice Interesting Singer Man. It features Farley singing contemporary tracks such as Gracie Abrams’ “That’s So True”, songs from decades’ past such as The Smashing Pumpkins’ “1979” and Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time”, and standards such as “Fly Me to the Moon” and “I’ve Got You Under My Skin”. It also features Farley covering himself with a stripped-down version of “Heard She Got Married”, originally written for The Very Nice Interesting Singer Man’s 2016 album Keep Being Awesome!
Farley felt releasing the sincere cover album under The Odd Man’s name would maximize the comedy factor. However, because he has stated on Twitter that he will no longer release any more No-Jokes songs, it seems The Odd Man will stick to writing about poop, puke and pee for the foreseeable future.
In the Motern Media universe
The Odd Man is also the front man of The Toilet Bowl Cleaners, which had signed on to Motern Media in 2008 as one of the label’s first bands. Throughout their first five years, the group enjoyed incredible success with songs such as “Scarlett Johansson Farts”, “The Diarrhea Bounce Back”, “Poop in My Fingernails”, “Poop Into a Wormhole”, and of course, “The Poop Song”. With The Toilet Bowl Cleaners, The Odd Man has racked up tens of millions of total Spotify streams.
However, after the release of their ninth album You Thought We Ran Out of Poop Song Ideas. You Were Wrong., The Odd Man decided to begin his own separate side project to increase his musical output. Where the Toilet Bowl Cleaners would begin to focus on more serious music, The Odd Man would cover the sillier, more frivolous tunes. The Odd Man released his debut solo album, Good Songs About Poop, Puke and Pee in October 2013, naming it similarly to The Toilet Bowl Cleaners’ debut album Songs About Poop, Puke, and Pee. It is not known if this was a snub from The Odd Man toward the rest of the band.
In May 2014, The Odd Man released Animal Poop Songs, his second solo album. However, this was originally going to be the next album from The Singing Animal Lover, another Motern Media musician who had not recorded since 2011 and was looking to make a major comeback. Due to his long period of inactivity, Motern Media President Matt Farley had given the Animal Poop Songs project to The Odd Man instead.
This led to The Singing Animal Lover leaving Motern Media and beginning his own label, Singing Animal Lover Music. Just over a week after The Odd Man released Animal Poop Songs, The Singing Animal Lover released It’s Time for People to Know the Truth, an album in which he called President Farley a liar and scammer, opened up about his depression and detachment from society, and explained his new life living among animals in the wilderness.
The Toilet Bowl Cleaners’ tenth album, Never Gonna Flush Again, was the de facto announcement of The Odd Man and The Toilet Bowl Cleaners parting ways. However, after the release of the album, President Farley announced that it was the last from The Toilet Bowl Cleaners.
In fact, the rest of The Toilet Bowl Cleaners had simply decided to release their next album on Singing Animal Love Music, in solidarity with The Singing Animal Lover. They parted with The Odd Man and released Mature Love Songs on Singing Animal Lover Music in August 2014. Despondent that he had seemingly failed, The Odd Man went on a long hiatus from his solo project and music in general while buzz about the controversy calmed down.
When Mature Love Songs was deemed a critical and financial flop, The Toilet Bowl Cleaners and The Odd Man decided to patch things up and return to Motern Media. They released Poop Oh Yeah! Poop Yes! Uh Huh! Poop! in June 2016 to widespread acclaim. After this, The Odd Man released two more solo albums, City Poop Songs and Food Poop Songs, in March and July 2017. These albums generated no controversy, as The Odd Man had worked out deals with both The Guy Who Sings Songs About Cities & Towns and The Hungry Food Band well in advance.
After The Toilet Bowl Cleaners released the Emergency Poop EP in April 2018, The Odd Man began his Name Poop song project, which kept him busy over the next several years. He would still find time to record and release music with The Toilet Bowl Cleaners in order to fulfill his contract obligations to Motern Media, such as the May 2022 album The Toilet Seat Boys, a snap reaction to NFL player A.J. Hawk misnaming the band. The Odd Man would also be a major decision maker in the creation of the 2023 lyric book The Selected Works of The Toilet Bowl Cleaners, as well as the 2025 vinyl-only compilation The Best of the Toilet Bowl Cleaners.
In August 2025, in a departure from his usual body-related fare, The Odd Man released I Like These Songs, part of Motern Media’s one-release-a-month feature for the year. It was a collection of covers of his favorite songs, which came from President Farley giving him free reign to do whatever he wanted for the August album as long as it was “funny”. The Odd Man figured a straightforward album of covers under his name would have comedic value. His gambit worked, and The Odd Man enjoyed success from creating something other than Name Poop songs.
However, after the release of I Like These Songs, The Odd Man went right back to work writing and releasing Name Poop songs, and continues to do so to this day.
